Carolina Cueva is a visual artist working with a variety of mediums including painting, collage, and sculpture.
My conscious and subconscious thoughts are expressed in my work through color, shape and material. I primarily work in paint, even while exploring and experimenting with other mediums. The process of making is paramount to me; and also the building of layers, which generate meaning. I create outside the confines of a narrative by exploring my thought processes and the place where conscious meets the subconscious. In this process of exploration, I resist specificity. The creative choices I make are interwoven with physicality and my work derives from being very much in the moment.
Carolina was born in Lima, Peru and was raised in Miami Beach, Fl. She received her BFA from School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City. In addition to her personal practice she works as a Teaching Artist with at risk youth at the Perez Art Museum Miami, Museum of Contemporary Arts, and Arts for Learning and the Little Haiti Cultural Complex. She is currently an 'Art and Social Practice' resident for Project Art Miami.
